At the same time as finishing a Bachelor of Graphic Design in 1995 Andy Thomas was involved in the early rave scene in Melbourne Australia where he painted UV murals, he then went on to use his skills with computers to create flyers for raves and outdoor trance parties in the 90’s and early 2000’s where he earned a name with an iconic style uniquely his own.

With the advent of high end animation software coming into the mainstream, he began teaching himself motion graphics and honed his skills on visualising sound from his love of electronic music and nature. He has worked with artists such as Bjork and Empire of the Sun creating stage concert visuals and large format projection works in galleries around the world.

He is also famous for creating visual bird sounds. Beautiful abstract shapes that react to sounds and reflect the subject matter using particle effects software to simulate physical properties such as smoke, liquid and growing plants. Sound recordings and photographs of birds and other animals are gathered by the artist through field trips into remote natural habitats around the world. The collected data is creatively animated using motion graphics software to create visually stimulating video and 2D digital art works. Inspired by the beauty of nature and extensive travel to some of the world’s most ancient rainforests, Thomas fuses together images of flora and fauna into evolved abstract forms. Intricately layered compositions of plants and animals make a strong statement of technology’s impact on planet earth and how advancements in society are affecting the natural systems of life.
