Lotte Reiniger (1899-1981) was one of the twentieth century’s major animation artists, pioneering a distinctive style of black and white silhouette animation in her interpretations of classic myths and fairy tales.
The Festival dedicates two cinema sessions to her work: The Adventures of Prince Achmed, hailed as the first animated feature in the history of cinema and entirely produced with silhouette cardboard figures. And four of Lotte Reininger’s Fairy Tale Films, where the delicacy and fantasy of the stories meet with her complex, imaginative and graceful technique.
