SCHOOL VISITS / The Artist Goes to School 1 JUN 17h00 Centro Cultural de Lagos – Sala de Exposições 1 OPENING / Guided Tour & Talk 4 JUN 17h00 Centro Cultural de Lagos - Sala de Exposições 1 Open until 2 JUL / Free admission
In this work the photographer wants to show the daily life of families living in the Cerro do Bruxo, Horta da Areia (Faro), Alto do Relógio and Monte João Preto (Loulé) camps, to tackle the prejudice and stereotyping that these communities often face.
In 2020 Pauliana Valente Pimentel was part of the Verão Azul Artist Residencies programme. For 10 days the artist lived directly with the gypsy communities of Loulé and Faro, creating a bond of trust with the people and getting a truly intimate portrait of their way of life.
The exhibition first opened in November 2021, in the Festival’s 10th Edition, and was presented at the Museu Municipal de Faro – Sala das Antigas Carpintarias up until January 2022.
FARO-OESTE will now be hosted by Centro Cultural de Lagos until July 4th, in a regional tour supported by Verão Azul.
The opening with host a guided tour, after which there will be a talk with the photographer, moderated by Ana Isabel Soares (Lecturer at Universidade do Algarve).
THE ARTIST GOES TO SCHOOL brings together the VERÃO AZUL programme and the GYMNASIUM – O PENSAMENTO TRANSFORMOU O INFINITO EM SERPENTE project, whose goal is to bring the school public closer to the art world.
In FARO-OESTE, the School is invited to visit the exhibition, giving middle-school students the opportunity to comprehend the different stages that make up an exhibition project – as well as Pauliana Valente Pimentel’s purposes, methods and work fields.
