The group exhibition Core Cuore – from July 18 to September 26 at the Centro Cultural de Lagos – establishes itself as a new chapter in the artistic universe developed by the Festival Verão Azul, emerging as an extension of its 12th edition. The curation is led by the artist and curator duo Ana Borralho & João Galante.

While the festival presented itself as an experimental laboratory where performing, sound, and visual arts converged to question the body in its political, social, urban, and post-human dimensions, Core Cuore brings these concerns into the exhibition space.

The title plays with the words “core” – center, essence – and “cuore” – heart in Italian, suggesting an encounter between critical thinking and emotional experience. Inspired by the digital aesthetic known as corecore, Core Cuore explores the fragmentation, overlapping, and collision of images, sounds, and narratives that characterize contemporary culture. In this context, the fragment becomes language and excess turns into critical material.

The exhibition brings together works by Andy Thomas, Jordan Stone, Molly Soda, John Rising, and Noper, artists who investigate the transformations of the human experience in the digital age. Through immersive installations, audiovisual collages, videos, sound environments, and hybrid narratives, the works evoke themes such as alienation, nostalgia, intimacy mediated by social media, collective memory, and the new imaginaries produced by the internet.
Andy Thomas (AU) presents universes where sound and image merge, transforming nature’s vocalizations into visual experiences that oscillate between the organic and the technological. Jordan Stone (USA) explores contemporary cinematic language through references to digital culture and advertising aesthetics. Molly Soda (USA) investigates the performativity of online identity and the affective codes of social networks. John Rising (UK) works with the logic of corecore through audiovisual montages that reflect the fragmentation of the present, while Noper (USA) constructs atmospheres that are simultaneously dreamlike and disturbing, where memory, repetition, and nostalgia intersect.
